New Server

We are now hosted on a new server with more bandwidth and storage available so the site can now move on from the restrictions that were faced over the last few months. Unfortunately during the process the site had to be restored to a version that is about 6 weeks old. So apologies for any lost forum comments etc. I'll now spend some time over the next few days updating the directory entries and hopefully get this site back on track. The new increased disk space means many more products, images and videos can now be added in the future. You'll also notice the top menu has been re-arranged in a simpler way.

Polar FT7 Review

Polar FT7 reviewI received the Polar FT7 heart rate monitoring watch as a birthday present and the thing I like most is that its water proof and I never have to take it off. Then when going for a run just put on the chest strap. For some reason I feel more motivated to run when its simple to get ready. When originally setting up the watch you put in your age and weight so it knows what your target training range is. During exercise it measures your heart rate in beats per minute, then indicates whether you are exceeding or falling below your target zone. I've never heard it beep for going too slow but I have heard it go off when my heart rate got too high usually around 165 it will start complaining. This feature can be turned off if it gets too annoying.

Another feature is the EnergyPointer, which tells you whether the main effect of your training is to improve your fitness or burn fat. I was surprised to learn that because my heart rate has been high, I've mostly been working on fitness as opposed to loosing weight. I've now learnt that walking keeps my heart rate lower which is better for weight loss.

Site Restructure

Upgradeyourbody.com has just undergone a few changes where press release information will now only be shown inside the product directory listings. This means all listings in the directory are more factually accurate and will quote information from manufacturers themselves. All original commentary or comparisons of products will be in the home page articles only. This separates the site into two sections. Articles for original commentary and products directory for factual information.

Since there will now be more focus on updating product information in the directory, articles may be written less frequently, however the products directory will updated more frequently. Any registered member can still submit products to the directory (including affiliate links) or submit articles as long as they conform to the editorial guide.

Can Resveratrol Make You Smarter?

resveratrol smarterIn the past Resveratrol has been mostly studied as an anti-aging supplement. However a new study by the University of Northumbria in the UK has shown that resveratrol even in small doses increases blood flow to the frontal cortex of the brain. The study showed that people taking the trans-Resveratrol supplement had an increase in cerebral blood flow during the task performances.

James Betz of Biotivia, one of the world's leading suppliers of Resveratrol supplements said "what is really grabbing attention is how the supplement appears to be able to respond to increased demand from the brain within a relatively short space of time from ingestion, and how rapidly the increase in blood flow seems to happen as a response. Although more study needs to be undertaken, it does seem that a supplement such as Resveratrol could have a direct influence on one of the key areas of brain performance," he adds. The Resveratrol used in the study was Made by Biotivia

First Adult Stem Cell Human Trial For Spinal Cord Injury Underway

RNL Bio located in Korea has already launched commercial stem cell therapy for pets like dogs and cats with spinal cord injury since 2008. Now they have announced they are beginning trials of the same treatment on humans. On April 30th the Korean FDA approved its human clinical study to treat patients with spinal cord injury using their product ‘RNL-Astrostem’ that is based on fat derived adult stem cells.

In early 2009 the U.S. FDA permitted Geron Corp to conduct a clinical trial using embryonic stem cells to treat patients with spinal cord injuries. However the RNL Bio method may prove less controversial due to using adult stem cells.

Regular Botox Users Require Less Treatments

Botox regular usersRegular users of Botox can potentially spread apart their treatments and save some money. After two years of treatment at recommended intervals, the frequency of Botox treatments can be cut by half. That's the finding from a study done at the Oregon Health & Science University.

"After two years of treatment at recommended intervals, patients can potentially cut the frequency, and thus the cost, of their Botox® treatments by half," said Roger A. Dailey, M.D., F.A.C.S., professor and Lester Jones Endowed Chair of oculofacial plastic surgery in the OHSU School of Medicine. The results of Dailey's work were presented at a meeting of American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon on April 24 in Washington, D.C.
