First Adult Stem Cell Human Trial For Spinal Cord Injury Underway

RNL Bio located in Korea has already launched commercial stem cell therapy for pets like dogs and cats with spinal cord injury since 2008. Now they have announced they are beginning trials of the same treatment on humans. On April 30th the Korean FDA approved its human clinical study to treat patients with spinal cord injury using their product ‘RNL-Astrostem’ that is based on fat derived adult stem cells.

In early 2009 the U.S. FDA permitted Geron Corp to conduct a clinical trial using embryonic stem cells to treat patients with spinal cord injuries. However the RNL Bio method may prove less controversial due to using adult stem cells.

Regular Botox Users Require Less Treatments

Botox regular usersRegular users of Botox can potentially spread apart their treatments and save some money. After two years of treatment at recommended intervals, the frequency of Botox treatments can be cut by half. That's the finding from a study done at the Oregon Health & Science University.

"After two years of treatment at recommended intervals, patients can potentially cut the frequency, and thus the cost, of their Botox® treatments by half," said Roger A. Dailey, M.D., F.A.C.S., professor and Lester Jones Endowed Chair of oculofacial plastic surgery in the OHSU School of Medicine. The results of Dailey's work were presented at a meeting of American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon on April 24 in Washington, D.C.

Laser Body Contouring with ZERONA

The Zerona laser is the first non-invasive body contouring procedure to effectively remove excess fat. The low-level laser works by causing stored fat to be released from fat cells. Treatment involves an average of six sessions over a two week period. Patients lie on a table for 40 minutes (20 minutes front and 20 minutes back), while the laser does its job. The average result has been 3 to 9 inches lost from waists, hips and thighs with the six sessions.

Needle Free Vaccines with the OBJ Patch

Last week the OBJ Patch listed in our products directory received a few hundred hits temporarily making it the most popular product in the directory. It has since been overtaken again by the 'Biotooth'. Product popularity in the directory is measured by number of hits.

The OBJ patch is able to deliver vaccines through the skin by the use of a disposable electronic patch. Anyone who has had to take toddlers to the doctors for vaccinations would appreciate the advantage of this. The OBJ home page even has a picture of a child with a smiley face patch on their arm. Although not available yet, it is close to commercialization with a few large companies including 3M testing it out.
