PinPointe USA, Inc.,has announced that it's PinPointe FootLaser technology is now available in Australia. The laser kills toenail fungus infections which can be traditionally very difficult to remove. It works by passing laser light through the toenail without causing damage to the nail or the surrounding skin. The first Australian podiatrist to offer the treatment is Paul W. Bours at the Institute of Surgical Podiatry in Sydney, Australia. Overseas the treatment costs between $1000 - $1200 US dollars depending on the provider.
Clinical studies have shown that the PinPointe FootLaser clears the fungal infection for most people after a single treatment. At the time of the procedure, the toenail will not become instantly clear as the old damaged nail needs to grow out. The treatment takes around 30 minutes and there is little or no discomfort.
Toenail and fingernail fungal infections are known as Onychomycosis. It is the most common of the diseases affecting the nail and makes up for about a half of all nail abnormalities.
The PinPointe FootLaser received approval last year from the Australian TGA, meaning it could be offered by certified health care providers throughout Australia to treat Onychomycosis. It it also approved in Europe, and in the United States, the PinPointe FootLaser is cleared for use in Podiatry and Dermatology.
