Although this is called the monthly poll I let this run for two months because I wanted to more accurately gauge the numbers and get an insight on what content to focus on in future.
So the Nov - Dec poll for 2009 asked the question 'Which technology will have the most influence over the next century?'
The results were:
56.1% said Stem Cells and Genetics
26.8% said Nanotechnology
12.2% said Bionics and Robotics
and only 4.9% said Cosmetic Procedures
My reading of these results is that people are most interested by far in improving their own human bodies by sticking with human stem cells and genetics. Nanotechnology was second which seems to imply a willingness to let artificial materials inside our bodies to help our natural bodies live longer and more disease free.
Only 12% were interested in Bionics and robotics which further seems to indicate a preference to remaining biological and human.
And most surprising of all less than 5% were predicting cosmetic procedures to be a big influence. Does this mean we don't really care what we look like, but are more intersted in the health benefits and longevity of that stem cells and genetics offers?
