Top Ten Rated Biotech Products For 2010

This year we thought we'd put together the results of our Biotech Directory Top Ten ranked by rating. Now that the directory has been there for around two years, its interesting to see these dynamic results. Anyone can submit products to the directory for free and even include links where to buy them from. You can view all products sorted by rating here.

1)The Pinpointe Footlaser is designed to kill fungus infections which can be traditionally difficult to remove. A laser light passes through the toenail without causing damage to the nail or the surrounding skin. Clinical studies have shown that the PinPointe FootLaser reduces fungal infection and promotes clear nail growth with a single treatment.

2) VNS Therapy by Cyberonics, Inc, VNS therapy is a stimulation implant where electrodes are wrapped around the vagus nerve in the neck. A study during 2010 showed consistent, sustained and clinically meaningful decrease in depression symptoms across all treatment groups as measured by multiple validated depression assessment scales.

3) The GentleLASE 755 nm alexandrite laser is made by Candela. It's capable of permanent hair reduction on all skin types. This laser has a 'Dynamic Cooling Device' (DCD™) to allow for a more comfortable and safe treatment. For hair permanent hair reduction, typically three to six sessions are required at 6 week intervals. It is also capable of treating pigmented vascular lesions and wrinkles. This means the laser can remove sun spots, age spots, freckles, cafe-au-Lait and Melasma, hemangiomas, venous lakes and blue facial veins.

4)TRIA At Home Laser Hair Removal Until recently, laser hair removal has been limited to salons and spas. But during 2010 the US FDA cleared laser hair removal systems that can be used at home. This new system delivers lasting, hair-free results just like the professionals provide where you'd normally pay multiples more. It comes with five enhanced comfort settings to make each treatment more effective than the last. This is because the less hair you have the hotter you can have the laser setting.

5) Resveratrol has primarily been studied for its anti-aging properties. However a new study by the University of Northumbria in the UK has confirmed that Resveratrol could have a significant impact on the cognitive processes of the human brain.

6) The i-LIMB Pulse is the bionic hand made by Touch Bionics. The i-LIMB had been around for a while but this year they created the Pulse version. It uses a pulsing technology to provide increasing and controllable grip strength to each individual digit. When the hand closes on an object, the user has the option to use a pulsing effect to apply additional grip force, allowing the hand to grip objects very tightly.

7) Maestro Cochlear Implant System is made by Spanish company Med-EL. They offer implantable solutions across the hearing loss spectrum, including cochlear and middle ear implants, combined electric-acoustic stimulation and brainstem implants.

8) PIP Silicone Implant System features the smallest pre-flexed silicone proximal interphalangeal (PIP) implant offered in the orthopedic market today. The Ascension® Silicone PIP has an anatomic pre-flexed design reproducing the natural resting position of the PIP joint and is designed to relieve pain, restore motion, and improve the cosmetic appearance of the joint.

9) HULC Exoskeleton The Human Universal Load Carrier (HULC™) is the third generation exoskeleton system from Berkeley Bionics. It incorporates the features of ExoHiker™ and ExoClimber™, exhibiting two independent characteristics: 1) It takes up to 200 pounds without impeding the wearer (Strength Augmentation) 2) It decreases its wearer's metabolic cost (Endurance Augmentation).

10) Heartmate III Bionic Heart consists of a small, lightweight blood pump implanted in a patient's chest just below the heart. It began human trials in 2009
