(from website) Glycotex is a U.S. based development stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing therapies intended to accelerate human wound healing and tissue repair across a wide range of human applications. GLYC-101 is a topical gel to be applied directly on the wound surface. GLYC-101 is intended to stimulate and modulate the natural cascade of wound healing activities of several cell populations. GLYC-101 shows promise to offer clinical benefits to patients undergoing treatment for acute or chronic wounds including: • Accelerating wound healing • Decrease in wound infection rates • Decrease in the duration and cost of hospitalization and medical treatment • Improving cosmetic outcomes • Enhancing the quality of life of patients Glycotex’s technology is based on the extraction of yeast cells containing the carbohydrate (1?3)(1?6)-?-glucan? in a specific configuration and size. A key component of this proprietary technology is an understanding of the structure-function relationship of the (1?3)(1?6)-?-glucan molecule and its interaction with target cells in the wound. Glycotex has developed significant expertise with respect to engineering, characterizing and producing the optimal forms of this molecule for use in wound healing. The active pharmaceutical ingredient in Glycotex’s lead compound, GLYC-101, is Glucoprime, a specific glucan known as particulate (1?3)(1?6)-?-glucan. Glucoprime has a unique mechanism of action that stimulates the action of macrophages by binding to the Dectin-1 receptor expressed on the critical cells involved in the wound healing process. This in turn mediates gene activation, protein synthesis and release of cytokines and chemokines in a physiologic pattern designed to impact wound healing. The binding of Beta-glucan to Dectin-1 mediates a variety of physiological changes in phagocytic cells, including enhanced respiratory burn, increased phagocytosis, the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, as well as growth factors -- all playing an important role in the innate immune response.
