In the quest to look younger longer, more and more people are finding that when it comes to looking youthful, it's not just all about a pretty face. We wear jewellery on our hands, it's a place we see. Some people have very young faces, but their hands give them away.   
 
The hands are the second-most-visible, telltale sign of one's age. As the face ages, we lose fat. We lose elasticity to the skin. The same thing happens to the hands.
 

As it turns out, hand rejuvenation isn't all that different from facial rejuvenation. Options range from microdermabrasion and chemical peels to minimally invasive procedures including laser and injectable fillers. 
 

June 2007 - A study published in the June issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, most people can accurately tell a person's age by viewing only their hands.

In the study, participants were given unaltered photographs of female hands and asked to estimate the women's ages. In the majority of cases, participants were able to accurately guess the age, citing prominent hand veins as the biggest clue to aging.
  

 

Removing age Spots
 

Using an at-home bleaching cream to start to diminish age spots on the hands is the best thing to try first.

Microdermabrasion is a superficial skin polishing procedure that involves sanding off the first layer of skin with tiny crystals. This procedure costs about $175.
 

Chemical peels are another option and cause age spots to disappear while tissue appears less transparent. This treatment costs about $600.

Fillers
 

Fraxel laser treatments stimulate collagen production, thereby eliminating sun damage while tightening and plumping up the skin. The entire process cost about $1,200.
 

For people concerned about prominent hand veins, which can give hands an aged look, plastic surgeons recommend fillers such as Sculptra and Radiesse, both of which plump up the skin and thus diminish the appearance of bulging veins. Fillers generally last several years.

Sculptra is an FDA-approved treatment intended for restoring and/or correcting the signs of fat loss, or lipoatrophy. It is made from poly-L-lactic acid and is commonly used to correct lipoatrophy in people infected with HIV.

Sculptra has also been used to improve the appearance of aging hands. The results can last up to two years, but may require occasional touch-ups. Multiple initial treatments are recommended for optimal results. Very rarely, and usually after the first treatment, red bumps can occur under the skin and can be noticed when the area is pressed.

Radiesse is another procedure that can improve the appearance of aging hands.
 

Removing Prominent Hand Veins
 

Sclerotherapy is an option that involves injecting a sclerosing solution into unsightly veins, causing them to turn white and gradually disappear. This treatment costs about $325.
