Future Treatments for Liver Failure
 

An Australian company is commercializing a drug called Ropren. It was approved in for sale in Russia in July 2007. Trials have shown Ropren - which is derived from pine needles - is highly effective in treating chronic liver diseases including various forms of hepatitis and cirrhosis. Its currently undergoing further clinical trials in Australia to back up years of trials in Russia.
 

August 2007 - Since gaining regulatory approval to release Ropren in Russia, Solagran has been getting a stream of inquiries from doctors and sufferers around the world. They now say a pricing regime has been developed so that the drug can be supplied outside Russia under the "compassionate use" and "personal supply" regimes of each country.

Solagran's manufacturing partner has agreed to supply the drug once proper approvals are granted at a price in the range of US$3500 and US$6000 for a three month course.

And from a recent Solagran announcement:

"Russia has a real challenge with chronic liver disease. Some 10 million people are affected. Existing treatments are either not sufficiently effective, have serious side effects, or are very expensive and still have high side effects. Ropren offers a treatment that is both effective and free of side effects. Once released in Russia, we expect demand will build rapidly. Many countries, including Australia, will permit residents to import a number of months supply for personal or family use. Thus, the demand could be
even stronger than anticipated."
